Transgendered Issues

I'm going to be writing about issues facing transgendered people. Because I'm interested in working with children, I'll probably be focusing on the youth.

  1. Wait, so you will be covering transgendered children? Aren't they rare?

  2. Random: Most boys when they're really little prefer to emulate mom, since they hang out with her the most. Think playing in her clothes, wearing her make-up, etc., because that's the norm of the person he spends the most time around. That's usually when dad steps in and starts trying to make an impact more.

So I guess if you look at it like THAT, not terribly.

  3. By children, I'm assuming under 18, so probably more teens? Some clarification would be nice.

I've been reading up on transgender issues from trans bloggers themselves, so I'm looking forward to this!

  4. Sorry. I actually meant as toddlers.

It makes complete sense. Mom's usually the one to stay at home with you the most, so you model yourself after her. Then Dad comes home one day a bit early and sees his little boy toddling about in Mom's heels and he's like, "wtf no."

My mom ran an at-home daycare center when I was like 1. One kid was 5 and refused to play dress-up unless he got to be the princess. Granted, that's a tiny bit different, as that's more true transgendered. His whole family kind of figured it out pretty quick.
